That's right, spotlight this week is on our very own Frank Castle.
Wonder Woman #7 - Redeeming itself for a rocky start? Maybe. I enjoyed this issue, actually. Wonder Women recuses her own government partner from the clutches of Circe, and there's some funny banter between the two of 'em. The government's intentions are revealed once they have WW in their grasps, and Circe is still going to kick some ass in the land of the Amazons. Not bad, but this is freaking Wonder Woman. We can do better.
The New Avengers #29 - Fantastic issue! The Mighty Avengers corner the New Avengers into a trap. The New Avengers thought that they'd be rescuing Captain America, but it was a dirty trick. Their powers get nullified by Stark, all of them except Dr. Strange, who single-handedly owns the entire Mighty Avengers in one breath. There's a great scene between Daniel Rand, the Iron Fist, and the Mighty Avengers that helps clarify Rand's status in the Superhuman Registration Act. Fantastic issue, can't wait for the reveal of who is Ronin the next issue.
52 #49 - Fantastic! Will Magnus and the Metal Men kick some ass. Worth it for this: "I have a particle wave ray gun and bipolar disorder! I have no idea what it might do to you if I pull the trigger.""
Iron Man #16 - Tony's foibles as a director of SHILED are even more called into question, with Dum Dum Dugan shining the light on as many as he can. Very different ways of working between the two of them, and it's gotten my interest in Mandarin coming back to kick some ass.
Green Arrow #73 - Ollie's got himself in a bit of a political snafu, and he doesn't hesitate taking the majority of the issue to try and work it out. More Green Arrow action please.
Ghost Rider #10 - Johnny attempts to save the town of Sleepy Hollow from Lucifer, with the nutso sheriff getting in his way a bit. A truce is formed, zombies are made, and the shit hits the fan. This series has been consistently cool since it's run, and one of my favorite things from Marvel currently. Highly reccomended.
Thunderbolts #113 - Horribly unlikeable group of characters and the drama that's casued between them makes for excellent reading. They're horrible people. Norman Osborn tries to get Penance taken off the team because he's too "crazy" and doensn't need a hero on the team. Osborn threatens to stop the cloning of Swordsman's sister, who Swordsman was promised to be brought back. All this and an attempt to toss Songbird off the team to cement Moonstone's position as leader makes for great reading.
And we have Punisher War Journal #6 on special this week.
My favorite thing about this new series is just how funny it is.
Frank's a pyschotic nutbag, without a doubt. Never been quite sure if his crusade is to make sure that there are not other people like him getting made out there, or if it's strictly for revenge. In any case, his ways of going about makes him a stark contrast to the rest of the universe.
Those situations where Frank is forced to team-up, take on, or take out other Marvel heroes has been my favorite. I love seeing Frank play off of Daredevil or Captain America, just because of the basic core differences in their philosophies. It's massively entertaining to see him in the same room as the rest of the universe just because he's so different.
With that said, he believes he's the sanest guy that this town has ever seen. All the super-blood in heroes, he says, makes them think that they're better than us and that they can tell us what to do. Not the case, to him. After Civil War, it's kinda' hard to argue with him.
This issue has him on the run from SHIELD, mainly. They've been hunting him down hardcore with CW Bridge on his tail. Frank's on the run and it leads to fun chase scenes and fights between him and SHIELD agents, but the real kicker and highpoint of the issue happens when he's at a local diner taking a breather.
Apparently, someone on the borders has been killing immigrants trying to get into the country. Like, brutally. There's a new Hate-Monger out, proudly wearing a swastika on his chest, causing chaos and killing anyone and everyone, and the costume he's wearing looks just like Captain America's, with a few twists. Frank sees this, realizes the costume was made like that for a reason, and he's not going to stand for it.
"I'm going to Mexico, and I'm gonna' shoot that guy in the face."
Fucking sweet, right?

This new Punisher title and the guy that writes it is a genius.
